Running south to north for 60 km through the Central Highlands area are the magnificent Aberdare mountains, nearly 800 km2 of which have been set aside as the Aberdares National Park. The volcanic heights are part of the Great Rift Valley's eastern rampart, and their lower slopes support a fine diversity of wildlife, including elephants and a number of rare animals such as the shy and lovely bongo antelope.

Meru National Park is located on the equator, near Mount Kenya and is part of a vast conservation area along the Tana River encompassing Meru and Kora National Parks and the adjacent National Reserves of Bisanadi and Mwingi, with a total area of over 4,000 sq. kilometres. Meru National Park contains numerous rivers and waterways including the mighty Tana river and varied habitats of swamp, riverine forest, savannah and dry bush country. Meru's proximity to Mount Kenya and the Nyambeni Hills ensures reasonable rainfall in the western half of the park, but in the eastern part it is generally dry and can be extremely hot.

Samburu National Reserve has an endless pageant of wildlife with frequent nocturnal visits from the leopard family right from your lodge’s main gate. Samburu National Reserve has excellent game spots for reticulate giraffe, the unusual Beisa Oryx with its lovely long straight horns, gleaming black and white coat impala, blue legged Somali ostrich, waterbuck, Grant's gazelles, dik dik, duiker, olive baboons, gerenuks, llions, spotted and striped hyenas.

The boarder of the island.

Le lac Bogoria The soda waters of the lake attract massive flocks of Flamingo, and the lake is often carpeted with pink. The 32 sq km lake is still volcanically active, and the Western shore is lined with spouting geysers, spurting steam and bubbling geothermal pools. Some 30 km (20 miles) south of Lake Baringo, as the ruddy ducks flies, is Lake Bogoria National Reserve. This small equatorial lake has geysers, and hot springs. They are relatively few vantage points from which you can see it but its topaz and green waters are strikingly beautiful.

Lake Nakuru This little park of 194 km2, located 160 km north west of Nairobi near Nakuru 4th largest town in Kenya, is a small reserve, but you can see an exceptional variety of birds such as kingfishers, pelicans, spoonbills, storks, and not forgetting the pink flamingo colonies. It is in this park that I have taken my best photos of herons and leopards.

Cheetah Masaï Mara Kenya

Masaï Mara, Set in the heart of Africa’s Great Plains, the Masai Mara boasts 1,672 sq. kilometres of unspoilt wilderness. It offers the best game and bird-viewing not only in Kenya, but anywhere in Africa. The views across the rolling golden grasslands studded with acacia trees, rivers and forests are dazzling, the sense of space overwhelming. Throughout the year the Masai Mara is a place of natural drama, a kaleidoscope of colour and life. The famed "Big Five" - elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo - roam the reserve, together with hundreds of other species, from the fastest animal on earth, the cheetah to crocodiles and magnificent birds of prey.
