Kenya is situated on the Equator and is made up of high mountain chains
principally in the western centre (Mount Kenya: 5,199 m). It could be said
that Kenya is a large plateau at an altitude of 1200 to 3000 metres
leaving only a small coastal plain opposite the Indian Ocean.

Several ethnic groups including the Kikuyus (1/5 of the population) and
the Masais live alongside Indian, Arab and European minorities.
Catholics, Protestants and animists each make up around ¼ of
the population. 75% of them live in rural areas. The country
mainly lives off its agriculture (coffee, tea, fruits and so on)
livestock farming and tourists, who are attracted to both
the coastal beaches and the country's numerous
nature parks.
